Raised in the Texas Panhandle, Dirk Swope was a 2005 Pampa High School graduate. While in high school he participated on the varsity golf team and was on the 4-H competitive shooting team, where he placed 13th in the state of Texas at 3-position small bore shooting. After graduation Dirk attended West Texas A&M University where he received his BBA in management. In his time at WTAMU he joined Sigma Nu Fraternity and a variety of other organizations that helped to cultivate his interest in leadership. Currently he is the production engineer for a manufacturing company in Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Swope is an avid fly fisherman, shooter, and hunter. As an added bonus, his unheralded knowledge of straight razor shaving, cigar selection, and pipe tobacco bring Panhandle Prep readers invaluable information on timeless traditions of what it means to be a man.
R. “Whit” Whitaker
Whit is a Texas Panhandle native from Gruver, Texas. He grew up farming and ranching with his father. He has a diversified education from West Texas A&M University for Pre-Veterinary Animal Science, Kansas State University for Veterinary Imaging, and the University of Texas at San Antonio for business administration. Whit lives in San Antonioand has a son named Sam who is now 9 years old. He is employed by a large veterinary distribution company as a veterinary hospital design and equipment specialist. Mr. Whitaker is an avid water fowl and bird hunter. He is passionate about working in his kitchen as he enjoys cooking and entertaining his friends. Some weekends you will find him playing rugby for the San Antonio Rugby Football Club. His contribution to the Panhandle Prep showcases his experience in effectively (and not so effectively) navigating big city life as a country boy and single dad from the Texas Panhandle.
